Greg turned in his
last assignment on Aug 6th (the day of the primary program). I totally cried as
this has been a hard journey for the whole family. We took the family out to
Golden Corral to celebrate. It was crazy helpful to have Greg able to help with
kids homework and dinner.
It was time for our anticipated Pennsylvania trip. Greg and I were up by 4 AM and we were on the road before 5 AM. We were hoping we could pack the kids to the car, and they would go back to bed. NOPE it was like Christmas. Everyone was up and ready to go, THE WHOLE DAY. I told Colvin he was the best sleeper last night, he said mom that makes no since. I know. Blessing; we were able to check in our bags for free. It was so nice not having to roll them through the whole airport. The kids did great on a 4 hour plane ride. Azalyn got a little tired but was not going to shut her eyes. Thank you inflight internet for entertainment. We went through Lancaster Pennsylvania we did not stop but we did get to see 2 buggies. Roads in the East are BAD. They always say that the West drives way more than the east. That is because they don't have the freeways infrastructure. We had to drive 4 hours from the airport to State College. However, it was only 200 miles. We got to do 70 for 21 miles. The rest of it was "city" streets that we had to go 45 to 50. The kids were ready to play a little when we finally stopped. We tried to go swimming, but the pool was like ice. If I had to describe Pennsylvania to anyone, I would say it is a blue skyed Washington. Tons of green and really pretty but not as dense as Washington.
MAIN EVENT: The graduation: I had packed my backpack for 2 hours of war. I had everything from fruit snacks to crayons to kindles and more. However, when we got up to the gate, they would only let us bring in a 3x2x1 bag. We stuffed our pockets with everything we could. They gave us plastic bags to put our stuff in. Blessing; we were able to get a long desk to sit at. We had room to set out all our stuff. There were very few kids in the crowd. The kids loved watching their dad. Greg was kind of frustrated because they called his name about 3 names in head of him walking. However it worked out perfect on ZOOM. He was one of the first to walk so it was a long wait for everybody else. After we went for ice cream. Greg really wanted Chocolate Marshmallow, but they were out.
FEELINGS: I totally cried. Quote from my Journal, "I sit watching my kids play, I have slept very little in the last 24 hours. As I watched Greg come in the hall and took his seat. I am so proud and so in love with that man. I don't mean the lust of wow that man is hot (that I feel too) but the deep true love we have both grown together. We rely on each other because he has strengths that are my weaknesses and vice versa. This is just the diving board we are ready to jump to the new adventures."
FUN: Then we went to Philie. We bought a 3 day city pass. We had a great time running for 3 days to see it all. It was 100% worth it. For the whole family the city passes were $375, if we would of paid for everything it would of been $611. I will have to let the pictures tell the stories
HIGHLIGHTS: The War ship was one of the coolest things we did. Colvin loved being the tour guide.
Going over the Benjamin Franklin Bridge was cool.
At the Lego land park, a stack of BIG bricks was pushed on top of me, I almost blacked out. I am just blessed it was not Azalyn because she had been right by me the whole time.
We never got a really good Philly Cheese Stake.
The stop and Go bus tour was cool because we got to see it all without having to walk it all.
We got to run the "Rocky" Stairs.
The kids all got Sponge Bop popsicles. They also got rolled ice cream. (Highlights for the kids)
We got to see the 2nd largest "Hard Rock" guitar. The first largest is in Las Vegas so I hope in October we will get to see that.
The Franklin Museum was REALLY fun. We could of spend WAY more time there.
We were all dead by the end of the day. Philly closes down by 7 and we were in bed by 8.
We got souvenirs at the airport, they had the best shirts.
Funny stories: We met a family in Philly that was going to New York. I asked how long of a drive, she said that it was only 4 hours, but they had to stop half way (hence them being in our hotel) since their kids cannot travel 4 hours in one day. My kids have done 16 hours in one day. This spring we did 9 hours a few times. 6 hours is a fast weekend trip for my kids. Yep, the west and east are different.
Eating out for a week wreaked havoc on our stomachs. One night Azalyn had a whole conversation with her poop. How it was too scared to come out, she was trying to tell it to be brave. Then she just gave up and said I will take care of you inside till you are brave.
On the plane going to Pennsylvania my kids had sweaters on most of the time. When we landed the pilot said it is a nice 80 degrees. It was 90+ when we got on the plane in Phoenix at 7 AM.
We had a GREAT time and made tons of Memories, but we were all SOO happy to be home. We are so grateful for ALL the blessings we have experienced over the last 3 years with Greg in School, BUT so Grateful to have that chapter completed.
