For Spring Break,
I took the kids to Idaho. They say disasters make the best stories. We have one
for the ages. We were making great time till outside of Vegas. We hit a pothole
and popped a tire. There is no service and since it was the freeway not really
away to flag anyone down. After 2+ hours we finally got roadside help to
come. We made it to Vegas Costco on a donut. Then had to wait 2
hours to get a new tire. The kids were gold the whole time. By the
time we got back on the road I knew I could not make it all the way to Idaho. I
was going to make it an adventure and sleep in the car, but Greg got us a room
in Ely Nv. It was a very old casino, so I was kind of skeptical. The room was
really small but nice. It was like 20 degrees outside and 10PM (I had been up
since 6) by the time we got to the Hotel, we did not get out any bags. We just
sleep in our clothing. However, I could not fathom the idea of dirty socks in
the morning. I washed all our socks in the smallest sink ever. Blessing they
were all dry in the morning.
In the Morning,
they gave us Denny’s breakfast coupon. It was not a smoke free casino, so no
one felt like eating. We grabbed the bacon and juice and headed out. We got the
McDonalds shamrock shake to share.
We made it to
Sierra’s about noon. Each mom is different, Sierra said that we needed a fast
easy dinner because she had to take Katana in early for the play. She said
spaghetti or stroganoff and I said yes, my kids love noodles she said you
cannot just eat noodles. Me WHY! Noodles with butter or ranch is easy.
Sorry
kids Sierra is a better food mom. Highlights at Sierra’s house: Kittens and the
4-wheeler
Reason one for our
trip: Katana had a play (Frozen Jr.) it was really so cute. Since my kids knew
the story and the songs it made it that much more enjoyable. They loved
intermission; they had candy for sale, and you could pay to play games.
Reason Two: Baler
got baptized. I swear 8 gets younger and younger. He was so big and brave. I
was in charge of zoom. Greg was the only one that made it on. Timber had a huge
storm hit and had no power. Azalyn and Colvin were both excited to hold the baby.
Highlights from McCarty’s: Mom and dad changed over to our phone plan, saves
everyone money. It was not a very smooth transaction, but we got it done. Axel
and my boys had a goal of making one of them throw up on a tire swing. Colvin
won from spitting up. However, that night none of them felt great. We did an
outside fire a few times and I miss that. McCarty has a very old ward. Denali
and Brenden passed the sacrament. It was really scary for Denali but growing up
is doing things that are scary. McCarty and I went shopping there
was $0.27 bread. Yes, I had to buy some because. The Wal-Mart checker thought
we were crazy. I think Carty bought 20+ loafs. (it was the best snack on the
way home) The last night we told the kids that if they got everyone in PJS with
no fighting they could watch bluey. 15 min flat everyone was ready with not a
peep.
Thought: McCarty
and Brenden teaches the 16 and 17 yr. old. One question they ask a lot are what
you should ask your future spouse. Think outside the box: Wall color in a
house, who does the repairs will you help, do you sleep hot or cold, blankets
or no blankets, what do you like to drink for dinner, or do you want a drink at
dinner. This had me thinking all weekend.
We went through
Utah on the way home. We had dinner with Gary (grandpa) Gary and
Tana. We spend the night at Tana’s got up the next morning and went to the
Manti Open house. We were the first group in, there was a line by the time we
got out. Manti is were Greg and I got married so it is a special place. The
kids thought it was really cool. It was the 3rd temple in the
west (St. George, Salt Lake, then Manti) first dedicated in 1888.
It was a great
Trip, but we were all happy to be home.
