December minus Christmas

December is always a fun a full month. This year was no exception. It started off on the right food. Denali had a dance recital. It was a fundraiser for the high school. The 5-7-year-old were the biggest group, and they got the biggest cheers. There was a boy or 2 in each group.
My boys love to see Santa, so we try to do that a few times in the year. The first Santa sighting was at the library. (sad Greg had to work, Denali even said mom I am sad dad does not get to see Santa.) Colvin was being a little stink and did not want to smile or look at the camera. (there were a million people so sorry if I got other kids). Denali said that what he told Santa was a secret. Colvin just started talking the moment he got to Santa.
Brake from crazy; this year in the book club we read the book wonder. When the movie finally came out, we (the book club) went and saw it. Greg did not even give me curves. It was so fun.
One of our favorite things to do is go to Salt Lake. We ride the train and walk around temple square.  The last few years we have gone in the middle of December, half of Utah has the same idea. This year we went early to kick off the holiday season.  (Greg also had a 3-day weekend) SOO much better ½ the people. The boys thought the lights were ok, but their favorite part was the family history center. They had toys and this cool green screen. We stayed there for over an hour. It got a little cold, but I had bundled them all up. Side note: Holden loves the Titanic, when I saw posters I had to take pictures for him.
I really wanted to get things done early this year, so I was not a rushed at the end. We did tons of neighbor gifts. We still ended up doing neighbor gifts all month long. (you can only do so many in one night and we keep remembering others)
Ok being a mom of boys is always an adventure. I was putting laundry away and heard the worst noise, and the boys laughing. I ran out to see a cat in the dryer. (I can laugh at the look on the cat’s face now but at the time I was not happy) poor froggie. I talked to the kids about what can and cannot go into the dryer. People and animals NO, blankets and stuffed animals OK. After I calmed down I asked Colvin why; he said I wanted to snuggle him warm (the boys put their blankets in the dryer to make them hot, he wanted to do the same with his cat. Smart but no) A funny thing for me is when I text my family no one asked what cat or who. They just said we love Colvin and how is froggie.
The boys love being on my treadmill (they use it more than I do), some times I just have to walk out of the room, and let them be boys. We have fun together. Greg and I did another face mask. I love doing crazy things with my husband. Denali loves going to the dentist so have a cavity for him is almost a good thing. Denali and Colvin sometimes love taking pictures. It really shows their fun crazy personality. Colvin does have to crash sometimes, it would help if he would sleep at night. (look at those eye lashes.)
The VA always tries to do family things. They sent an email saying they were doing Christmas ornaments, the boys really wanted to go.  First, we were there way early (I got the time mixed up) so we went to the park. (yes, the park in December) Then when we finally got to the VA home the Christmas ornaments were not for little kids. We just walked around for a few min with Greg’s dad. Denali was so sad, when we got home Greg had the brilliant idea to do snowflakes. The boys loved that, I have snowflakes all over my house.
Then there was the ward party (again Greg had to work, I am getting good at doing things on my own) The party was nice. I made my first batch of candy for it. (turned out great) Tangent; I wanted to look nice for the party. I painted my nails, I had to take a picture as soon as they were done because they don't last long. Took about 24 hrs for me to get a chip. I tried to get out of my shell and talked to quite a few people. They had the best Santa. The boys keep changing what they want for Christmas. I finally just told them they will get presents and be happy no matter what. They liked the idea of presents.
I got be with Colvin for his Christmas party. He was so excited to see me. We made an ice cream cone Christmas tree. Colvin had so much fun eating it with no hands. (FYI, we have had candy over load in our house since Halloween, the first of the year that must change)
The boys and I went to see Darlin and Denim dance. It was so fun to see Timber. I really don’t go down there enough and now that she is leaving so I am super sad. The girls did a wonderful job, and they are getting too big. Blazen thinks it is fun to compete with Denim for the favorite. I am so glad my boys will have great boy cousin example. If the roads were bad, we were going to stay at Timber, but we are having a crazy warm December, so I came home. Greg was so wonderful and stayed up for me.
I finally got to host a cousin party again. (I did not have a house last year so Julie did all of them) Timber finally made it to a party.  I had nachos, we prayed and was getting ready to eat when Greg asked me about cheese.  Yep having nachos with no cheese.  Took me about 5 min to warm it up.  We did a gift exchange. The little kids did not understand the exchange part till the end.  Then after we were all done they all wanted a different gift. I finally got my snap and chat.
The next day was the Proctor party (yes December is party after party and crazy fun). We thought we had Nick the whole time but ended up having Treyson. It worked out because neither was there, and we had just done a gift card. (oh, side note, Greg had to get other lease for his camera the cool part was he was able to find one on Facebook). Tana always does a fun treat decoration. Colvin just ate the candy, Denali really got into his, he put a little of everything on it.  Colvin got a bubble train (the sound cannot be turned off, but he loves it, so mom must hide it after a few hours) and Denali got a Minnie helicopter (it is hard, but he is good at it). That night we had an adult dinner. Tana’s kids came and watched my kids. I felt bad because Colvin had fallen asleep and I had to wake him up. He was not happy; every time they watch him he cries the whole time.
Something new in Syringa’s life is I got a new journal. It makes me happy to finish one since I know that I am putting down my family history.
December just going with fun things. We took the boys through the Spanish Fork lights. They thought it all looked magical. I love seeing the joy in their eyes. I love the lights but watching them watch the lights is about the best thing ever. Christmas time is just better with kids.
Denali had his first Christmas concert. By far the kindergarten did the best. They sang, “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer” Denali would not wave at us I could not understand why. I asked if he saw me, he said yes but my teacher said she did not want to see my hand. I was so glad that he had listened. The school did something so cool. They reserved the front row for “Parent Paparazzi”
For part of Greg’s Christmas, I bought him a movie pass. It is so cool; for $10 a month (we also got a Costco deal for $90 for the whole year) what it is you can go to a movie a day.  Where was this 8 yrs. ago. We each took the boys on a date. Greg took Denali to the movies and I took Colvin to McDonald’s. A few days later I tried to take Colvin to the movies, but it was sold out. It turned out perfect (the lord really does know best.) We played at the mall for an hour. Talking about tender mercies. About 8 yrs. ago Greg and I made Christmas stocking. We both put mom and dad on ours. At that time, we had been trying for a baby for a few yrs. I remember crying that night about why am I not a mom.  This year my 2 wonderful boys made Christmas stocking to match Greg and I’s. Being a parent is the best thing that ever happen to me. The lord knows you! Back to the movie pass; mom and dad went on a big trip and spend the night going and coming. They watched the boys, so Greg and I could use our passes. We got to see all the new movies.
The year ended on a great note. We stayed at Sonya’s till about 9 ate and played games. Then the boys got to sleep on our floor. I woke up at 11:50 and checked on everyone. When I crawled into bed I said Happy New Year Greg love you, he rolled over with YA me too!   BEST MAN EVER!
Stories: *I am putting this in the end so that I can add the Video. When I picked Colvin up from School one day he was singing slippery fish to me. I had to stop and get it on video I love his little voice.
*Greg and I decided that we did not want to rush Christmas at the end.  We started wrapping at the beginning of December. It did take a few days, but we were done early. It was so nice to get to relax.
*One morning I was telling Denali you are my favorite 5 yr. old. He looked at me with all sincerity and said mom you are my favorite 50 yr. old. Just wait Denali.
*The last few weeks of the year I no motivation. I did finish the Book of Mormon made easy. Instead of fighting myself, I went to the library and got me a few books. I was going to accomplish something.
*The last day of school before brake Denali did not feel great. However, he was not going to stay home and miss the party. I told him that if he did not feel good just tell his teacher. The moment the “party” was over the school called me.
*Talking about the end of school I was over joyed. Greg said I was more excited then the kids.
*We took the boys to the movie “The Star” it was the Christmas story told by the animals. I loved it, it showed that it was not all roses for Mary and Joseph. We all must work at life no matter what.
*This year we did the $5 gift exchange. (it makes me rethink Christmas – next year we are going to do presents a little different) We did the gift exchange with Sonya it was so fun.
*We wanted to do things with the kids during the brake. We took them swimming in Provo, they loved it because they both discovered the water slide. We also took them to Orem with Tana, but they could not do the slide by themselves, so it was not as fun.
*Greg finally put his old TV up in our room. I love it more than I thought I would. It really reminds me of our honeymoon.
